Towing FAQs

Want to tow one of our trailers yourself? Here's what you need to know!

How Much Can My Vehicle Tow?

We have trailers small and lightweight enough that you can tow with your mid-sized SUV or small truck. Charlie and Ruby are svelte little gals, both weighing in at just under 3500 lbs! You can check out your vehicle's towing capacity HERE. Or take a look at the articles linked below to see if your vehicle makes the grade!

What Else Do I Need?

trailer hitch with 2" ball
After-market/under-dash trailer brake controller
In-dash trailer brake controller

You'll need a trailer brake controller, like one pictured at left; a hitch that's both rated for the weight you're towing and the correct ball size for the trailer (2" or 2-5/16", depending on the trailer you choose), and an insurance binder/rider that covers a towed vehicle.

Towing Tips & Tricks

Towing a trailer can be daunting if you've never pulled anything before. But with a little practice (and some help from YouTube!) you'll be an old pro.

Make sure to brush up on your backing up and parking skills, too! There's an old technique (some call it the "scoop") that'll really help. And one more good trick: if you're having a hard time remembering which way to turn the wheel to make your trailer back up the direction you want it to, try this: put your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel. Want to go left? Move your hand to the left.
